Nurses get almost 90 fewer minutes of sleep before days they are scheduled to work, according to a study from New York University's Rory Meyers College of Nursing that cited commute times, personal responsibilities, shift work and 12-hour shifts as possible factors. The researchers found that nurses sleep six hours and 54 minutes, on average, before scheduled shifts and eight hours and 17 minutes, on average, before days they don't work.
