Coronovirus: What You Need to Know

Posted over 5 years ago

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified an ongoing outbreak of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Wuhan, China. Cases have been identified in multiple countries, including the United States.

Transmission of 2019-nCoV can occur person to person, but it is unclear how and how easily the virus is transmitted. The CDC has issued interim travel guidelines and entry screening of passengers on direct and connecting flights from Wuhan to three main ports of entry in the U.S. along with an updated interim Health Alert Network (HAN) Advisory to inform state and local health departments and health care providers of the outbreak.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) urges its members to review the CDC's interim guidance for health care professionals to protect the public and health care providers.

See guidance on infection control basics and transmission-based precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), standard precautions, contact precautions, airborne precautions, and the use of a NIOSH-approved N95 or higher respirator
