Statement from ANA President Grant: Murder of Home-Health Nurse and WSNA Member - Douglas Brant

Posted over 1 year ago

Please read this statement from ANA President Dr. Ernest Grant regarding the recent murder of home-health nurse Douglas Brant and Washington State Nurses Association member.

###

In what has become a far too common occurrence, once again the nursing community is grieving the loss of one of their own.

Home-health nurse and Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) member Douglas Brant was killed while caring for a patient on December 1, 2022. By all accounts, Douglas Brant was a truly exceptional nurse and person.

Yet again, I find myself publicly mourning the death of a nurse. It never gets any easier to learn about the death of nurse, especially one so committed to his patients and community as Douglas.

Today, I am thinking of his grieving WSNA colleagues, along with his friends, family, and patients. I am truly, deeply, sorry for your loss. Douglas was an exceptional caregiver, and the world is a lesser place without him in it.

On behalf of ANA, I extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to his WSNA colleagues, loved ones, and patients who will sorely miss him.
