Webinar Description:

This session will focus on NDSU MPH alumni and how they have used their NDSU MPH practicum to ‘jump-start’ their careers in public health.

Speakers Backgrounds:

Jackee Haak MPH, RN, NE-BC, IBCLC has a Master’s in Public Health from North Dakota State University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minnesota State University Moorhead and became an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2015. She has worked with patients and families in NICU, adult ICU, post- partum and lactation settings for 15 years prior to her leadership roles. Currently, she is the inpatient director of the Family Birth Center at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Her passion projects include establishing a breast pump accessory vending machine in her local hospital as well as a human milk donation and outreach center.

Madison Verghis, BSN, MPH, RN received her bachelor’s degree in nursing through the University of Jamestown in 2017 and worked as a nurse at Sanford. She then accepted a position at Fargo Cass Public Health as a reproductive health nurse in 2019. After receiving her Master’s in Public Health from North Dakota State University, she accepted the Ryan White Case Manager position and has been working in this position for about 4 months. Madison’s practicum focused on stigma connected to HIV and how it effects testing and treatment. One of her biggest goals was to help break down the stigma of HIV by reiterating that HIV is just like any other chronic illness. Although HIV is not curable, there are treatment options that are highly effective. Madison also made a handout that helps capture HIV in ND. This shows those living with HIV that they are not alone while also educating about what HIV is, how it is spread and NOT spread and other key information that will help break down the stigma surrounding HIV.
