North Dakota Health and Human Services (NDHHS) is providing this information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding summer travel and measles. International travel is a known risk for measles, especially by unvaccinated or under-vaccinated individuals visiting areas of endemic spread. Domestic travel may pose a risk when there are active cases. There are no current U.S. measles cases, but 16 measles cases have been reported in the U.S. in 2023. Most of these cases were among children who had not received a measles-containing vaccine.
