From ND Health and Human Services - Vaccine Update

Posted 4 months ago in ND Health and Human Services

On Thursday, August 23rd, the FDA announced that it had approved and updated the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the updated 2024-2025 mRNA (Moderna and Pfizer) COVID-19 vaccines for use in the United States. These vaccines are monovalent (single) component vaccines that correspond to the Omicron variant KP.2 strain of SARS-CoV-2.

It is unknown at this time if 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccines have been deauthorized. More information about last year’s COVID-19 vaccines will be sent in the near future.

Note that U.S. FDA has not yet authorized or approved an updated Novavax vaccine for 2024-2025.

In June, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend the use of the new 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccines in individuals 6 months and older as approved/authorized by the FDA. This universal language means that everyone 6 months and older in the United States is recommended to receive the updated COVID-19 vaccines. The interim clinical considerations are in the process of being updated to reflect these changes. Standing orders and additional documents will be updated in the near future.
