Please see below for important immunization-related updates from ND Health and Human Services.

Increased Pertussis Cases in North Dakota

The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) distributed a news release today to inform the public about increased pertussis cases in the state. HHS has previously distributed a pertussis health advisory to healthcare providers (attached). Healthcare providers are encouraged to consider pertussis in patients with clinically compatible symptoms. Healthcare providers should continue to recommend immunization, especially Tdap in pregnant women to protect infants during the first months of life when at high risk for severe disease.

COVID-19 Vaccine Available for Order from HHS

Due to having adequate supplies of COVID-19 vaccine for Vaccines for Children (VFC) eligible children and uninsured/underinsured adults, HHS is opening up ordering for COVID-19 vaccines in the North Dakota Immunization Information System (NDIIS). HHS will no longer be allocating COVID-19 doses to providers. Providers are encouraged to order COVID-19 vaccine doses, as needed. Nirsevimab will continue to be allocated to providers for VFC-eligible children until adequate supplies are available to open up for ordering.

October ACIP Meeting

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is meeting today and tomorrow to discuss various immunization-related topics. Anticipated votes are listed on the ACIP website. A summary of the ACIP meeting and new recommendations will be distributed via email later this week.
